The collections at the National Mining Museum Scotland comprise over 100,000 items including objects, archives, photographs and books. These resources have been used for research into family history, academic publications, books, journals and much more.

Research can either be conducted by our Curatorial and Volunteer Team or in person within our reference library. Please get in touch with us to arrange an appointment to use the Library or to discuss your research.

We aim to respond to all enquiries as quickly as possible, but please bear in mind that some enquiries can take longer to resolve than others. If you have not had a response within two weeks, please do get in touch again.

Please fill in the form below with your enquiry details or email collections@nationalminingmuseum.com.

Alternatively, please write to us at:

Please note that it can take longer to respond to enquiries made via social media.

While the staff and volunteers at NMMS are very happy to assist with research and may also offer expertise based on their own knowledge and experience, please remember that these are personal opinions and are not necessarily those of the Museum.

If seeking advice about, for example, subsidence in relation to the purchase of property, always consult a practicing surveyor or other relevant professional.
